Importance of Lifestage Wellness

Wellness care is important for pets of all ages and physical conditions. At GreenTree Animal Hospital in Libertyville, cat and dog exams and vaccinations are recommended visits on an annual or biannual basis, depending on your pet’s needs. Our team provides customized veterinary care to our patients, ensuring that each pet receives the care best suited to them.

Cat and Dog Exams

No matter what age your pet is, your pet’s annual or semi-annual visit will include a complete pet wellness care examination, checking them physically from nose to tail. We also use the opportunity of meeting with you to administer pet vaccinations, as needed, and to discuss aspects of your pet’s life, including:

  • Appetite
  • Behavior
  • Exercise habits
  • Pet vaccinations we may recommend
  • Regular at-home activities
  • Routine diagnostic testing that we recommend
  • Weight changes

Other Reasons for Pet Exams

During your pet’s examination, we welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns about your pet’s care and answer your questions. As your partner in your pet’s lifelong care, we are always pleased to be a part of ensuring that your pet leads a long and healthy life with you.

A pet wellness care exam is important for a variety of reasons. In addition to helping our veterinarians keep track of your pet’s ongoing health, wellness exams can also give us the opportunity to evaluate major organ systems and evaluate your pet to detect early signs of illness before health issues have progressed. We also use this time to help foster the strong pet and pet owner bond that you appreciate so much. Through physical examinations and consultations with you, we make every effort to learn as much as possible about your pet’s lifestyle and needs. We can use the information we’ve gathered to help you provide your pet with the best care possible.

Our puppy and kitten exams allow us to establish a vaccination schedule, typically around 8, 12, 16 weeks of age, a 6-month exam to access eruption of adult teeth, and a spay/neuter plan. We also offer semi-annual exams for senior pets and pets on chronic medications who need lab work. These may include pets taking NSAIDS (arthritis medication), seizure medication, thyroid medication, blood pressure medication, or heart medication.
